Playing down the poor show of the Aam Admi Party in the recently concluded Parliamentary elections, social-activist and AAP leader, Medha Patkar, said here on Wednesday that it was a good start for a new party. “AAP has been able to get four seats in Punjab and substantially increase its vote share in Delhi. This is a good beginning''.
Ms. Patkar, who contested as the party's candidate from Mumbai North-East constituency, complained that money power had played a crucial role in the elections and that but for that her party could have got a better result.
Replying to a query, she said her party president, Arvind Kejriwal, may not have taken the right decision by refusing to sign a personal bond as a result of which he spent six days in Tihar jail when his presence was required outside.
On Narmada issue, she expressed hope that Prime MinisterNarendra Modi, and Water Resources Minister, Uma Bharati, would ensure that justice was done to all those affected by the project. “Uma Bharatiji used to venerate the Narmada river. I hope she would take care of it now that she is the Minister in charge of water resources''.
Earlier, she along with a contingent of farmers held a round of discussions with the Chief Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh government on the Indrasagar and Omkareswar canals as per the directions of the High Court. She and her team impressed upon the government to ensure that land and houses were not submerged by dams and canals in violation of the law.
