Observing that West Bengal is facing a “perception problem” because of the previous government and it will take time for it to dissolve, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said the State was emerging as a prominent destination for industry.
Ms. Banerjee, who was addressing the Horasis Asia Meeting here, said West Bengal would soon reach the top in terms of State-wise ranking of ease of doing business. “We don’t allow any strike in West Bengal. We have the best relations with industry and working classes.” The State had met 336 of the 372 parameters of ease of doing business, she said.
‘Work culture better’
Ms. Banerjee said the work culture had improved along with improvement in physical and social infrastructure. She also invited the delegates to the Bengal Global Business Summit on January 16 and 17. She added that her government did not forcefully acquire land from farmers and had created a land bank for industry.
Later in the day at a meeting of the Cabinet, it was decided that 52 families whose land was acquired by the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority without their consent during the Left Front regime would be returned to them.
