Union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge has welcomed the unconditional withdrawal of the flash strike called by the Air India Employees' Union in the interest of passengers, with the assurance that the conciliatory talks on their various demands, such as timely payment (of salary, etc) and the withdrawal of the show cause notice, would be looked into by the Labour Department.
Mr. Kharge thanked Chief Labour Commissioner (CLC) S.K. Mukhopadhyay, the Air India management and the employees' union representatives for their efforts in ending the strike.
A memorandum of agreement on the tripartite talks had been signed, he said, adding that the union representatives were clearly told by the CLC that the strike was illegal as they had not given any notice for it. “They were asked to withdraw as it had caused lot of inconvenience and hardship to the passengers, and the unions readily agreed without insisting on any condition. The management also did not press for any conditions,” Mr. Kharge added.
