The Congress party on Monday announced that it had appointed five new Pradesh Congress Committee presidents and one Regional Committee President.
“All appointments are a part of a process initiated by Mr Gandhi and taken with his concurrence,” a senior party leader said.
“Both Ajay Maken and Uttam Reddy played prominent roles in the assembly elections in their states and the party performed badly. Proximity to Mr Gandhi has got them these new roles, now they have to prove themselves by building the party in the two states,” a party leader told The Hindu .
Mr Uttam Reddy was appointed the Telangana unit president. He was working president during the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections and is a sitting MLA.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan will now head the party unit in the state while Sanjay Nirupam is now the Mumbai regional committee chief.
Former J&K Minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir will head the party in the Northern state while former Union minister Bharatsinh Solanki is the new Gujarat PCC president.
