The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case of cheating and corruption against a former Lok Sabha MP from Congress and his personal assistant on charges of using forged documents to claim travel allowance worth Rs. 9.7 lakh.
“Vinay Kumar Pandey, former MP from Shrawasti constituency in Uttar Pradesh, and his personal assistant Arvind Tewari, have been named as accused in a case of conspiracy, cheating, forgery and corruption. It is alleged that forged e-air tickets and boarding passes were submitted by them to claim a refund of Rs. 9.7 lakh for travel to Andaman,” said a CBI official.
According to the CBI, though the then parliamentarian claimed refund for the travel along with his companions in November 2012, investigations revealed that no such journey had been undertaken by them.
Cases against 6 membersIn June 2014, the CBI registered cases against six sitting and former members of the Rajya Sabha for allegedly claiming travel reimbursements on forged bills.
Among those accused were D. Bandopadhyay of Trinamool Congress, Brajesh Pathak of BSP, Lalhming Liana of Mizo National Front, JPN Singh of BJP, Mahmood A. Madani of RLD and Renu Pradhan of Biju Janata Dal.
