Lord Parekh is among the 14 internationally renowned thinkers such as Harold Laski and R.H. Tawney who have been honoured by the association to mark its 60th anniversary.

“Seminal contribution”

He has been recognised for his “seminal contribution” to the study of multiculturalism, identity and political philosophy.

Lord Parekh, who teaches at the universities of Hull and Westminster and was till recently professor at the London School of Economics (LSE), said he was “extremely pleased to be honoured this way.”

“Great honour”

“This is a great honour for an Indian academic,” Lord Parekh said.

A selection of writings from the works of Lord Parekh and other leading figures in British political theory has been brought together in a volume, British Political Theory in the Twentieth Century, edited by Paul Kelly, professor and head of the department at LSE.
