LeT module busted in Kashmir

October 27, 2014 12:24 am | Updated May 23, 2016 06:42 pm IST - Srinagar:

Eight alleged Lashker-e-Taiba militants were arrested in north Kashmir on Sunday, weeks before the first phase of Assembly election.

With the arrest, the security forces claimed to have busted a module of the terror outfit and “averted a major terror plan.” A huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized.

A spokesman said the police in Sopore (in Baramulla district), with the help of 30 Rashtriya Rifles, busted a recruitment module of the Laskhar.

The eight were arrested from different parts of Sopore and adjoining areas. He said the local boys were recruited into the outfit, which was building a network of LeT operatives.

“They were bent upon executing various militant actions in and around the township in conspiracy with one Umer Khitab, a Pakistani national,” the police spokesman said.
