Lashkar behind Srinagar blast, say police

A day after the car bomb blast that killed at least four people and injured fourteen others near the Central Jail in Srinagar, the top brass of the police on Sunday said that the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had masterminded the attack.

"We have some vital clues, we know who has done. It is Lashkar mastermind Rehman, a Pakistani national who is hiding like a rat in the mountains of Shopian. He has masterminded this blast,” said Farooq Ahmed, Inspector General (IG) of Police, Kashmir Range.

"We also know how they have carried it to Srinagar; from where it has come. It is a matter of time only that we get them,” he added.

On Saturday evening, a police vehicle was blown off by an improvised explosive device (IED). The explosion, the deadliest in recent months, shook buildings around Central Jail, the main prison in Srinagar.
