: The police took into custody a youth found in suspicious circumstances near the residence of Congress leader and former Minister K. Sudhakaran in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police said a person identified as Rajeesh was being questioned after he was nabbed by the police near the residence of Mr. Sudhakaran at Chettiarkulam here in the early hours. A knife and motorcycle were also seized from him. Rajeesh is allegedly a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker at Ambadimukku here. The police said he was found with three others on motorcycles. On finding the police vehicle, the three fled. When contacted in the evening, the police said that he was still being questioned.

Mr. Sudhakaran was not at home then as he was in Thiruvananthapuram to attend the KPCC meeting. Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary P. Jayarajan said he suspected a Congress-BJP plot to attack the house of Sudhakaran and blame it on the CPI(M).
