A group of 20 housewives in Ajanur grama panchayat here have completed training in coconut climbing to better their employability.

The women, who are part of a labour bank set up by the panchayat, completed a 10-day training module at the Regional Agricultural Research Station at Pilicode here last month.

They will be ready to take up jobs by May end, P. Damodaran, president, Ajanur grama panchayat, said.

Machines at ₹600

Sponsored by the local Krishi Bhavan, the women spent ₹600 each to procure state-of-the-art coconut-climbing machine besides power tillers, garden tillers, and weed cutters, P. Santha, secretary of the labour bank said. Customers may contact the grama panchayat or the Krishi Bhavan to make use of the services of the labour bank.
