A writ petition was filed in the Kerala High Court on Wednesday by a woman seeking a directive to the Centre and the Union Ministry of External Affairs to take steps to rescue and repatriate her daughter and her 10-month-old baby said to be in the custody of the Islamic State in Afghanistan.
In the petition, Bindu Sampath of Thiruvananthapuram said her daughter Nimisha, alias Fathima, who embraced Islam, and her child Ummakolusu had been under the illegal custody of some terror groups in Afghanistan.
In fact, her daughter was converted forcibily, trapped, misled, and taken to Afghanistan against her will and they were eager to return home. She had got a message that they were in Afghanistan. The lives of her daughter and the granddaughter were in danger.
The petitioner met the Union Home Minister and gave him a representation for repatriating her daughter and granddaughter. Besides, she had approached the Prime Minister’s Office with the same request.
The petitioner also sought a directive to the Centre to prevail upon the Afghanistan government to find out the whereabouts of her daughter and granddaughter.
