Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman from Bihar who is said to have had close ties with Abdul Rashid, one of the 17 persons missing from Kasaragod district and suspected to have joined the Islamic State (IS).
The woman was identified as Yasmin Mohammed, who is said to have befriended Rashid, a native of Udumbanthala in Thrikkarippur. She was formally arrested here on Monday.
Earlier, Ms. Mohammed was taken into custody by Kanhangad Deputy Superintendent of Police K.K. Sunil Babu in New Delhi.
The arrested woman, who is said to have confessed to have been in touch with Rashid even after his disappearance, was produced before a court in Kanhangad on Monday night, Superintendent of Police Thomson Jose said.
The police refused to share further details on the arrest, which comes as police and central agencies are probing the possible links between the 17 missing persons and the IS after scrutinising messages sent to their relatives after their disappearance.
