Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the government is not ready to succumb to the pressure of anti-development activists.

He was speaking after taking salute at a passing-out parade of the 22nd batch of firemen at the Fire and Rescue Services Academy here on Sunday.

The government would not give in to pressure from people who always stood in the way of development, he said without mentioning the ongoing GAIL agitation at Mukkam.

'Pushing for more jobs'

“The LDF government is on a mission to create more job opportunities for the educated youth and stop brain drain in the State. We need development in various sectors to utilise the potential of the youth. But people with vested interests are creating obstacles whenever the government comes up with new projects,” he said.

The government would take steps to recruit more women into the Fire Force to ensure gender equality, the Chief Minister said.

“Modern equipment and vehicles will be provided to modernise and strengthen the force. Safety squads will be formed for multi-storey buildings,” he said.

People with high educational qualification would improve the quality of the force, Mr. Vijayan said. Credibility, discipline, togetherness, and commitment should be the basis of the force, he said.

Minister for Agriculture V.S. Sunil Kumar presided over. Mayor Ajitha Jayarajan, district panchayat president Sheila Vijayakumar, Director General of Police Tomin Thachankary and others participated.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the breathing apparatus training centre. In all, 355 firemen took part in the parade.
