Two persons were injured, one of them seriously, when a wild gaur entered in to the human occupied areas in Anjuruli under the Ayyappanacoil range office on Friday.
The seriously injured Joeph Parackal, 62, was rushed to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital after being admitted to a private hospital here. He belongs to Karinkulam Chappathu. Abin Mathew, who got minor injuries, has been admitted to a private hospital here.
An official of the Ayyappancoil range office said that the wild animal came from the Periyar Tiger Reserve through the plantations and attacked Mr Joseph at Palakkada near here. Mr Mathew was attacked at Kavadikkavala near Labbakkada. The officials of the forest department were staying in the area as the wild gaur which was chased into the forest area might return to the human-inhabited areas.
Ayyappancoil range office under the Kottayam Divisional Forest Office is in border with the Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, where wild gaur has not been sighted for the past 20 years.
