District Collector K. Biju flagged off the walkathon. Municipal chairman Aryadan Shoukath presided. Mohammed Farhan, vice captain of the Indian team which won the World Cup Cricket for the Blind, led the walkathon.

Three-km walk

The participants walked for nearly 3 km from Nilambur town to Chandakkunnu by holding hands.

Apart from voluntary organisations, school students, autorickshaw and taxi drivers, people’s representatives, housewives, retired personnel, senior citizens, political leaders and activists, and cultural leaders too joined the walkathon by wearing special T-shirts.

District Medical Officer V. Ummer Farook administered a health pledge to the participants.

Healthy forever

The total health project with the message of living healthy forever is being implemented by the Nilambur municipality in collaboration with the State Health Department and National Rural Health Mission.

Volunteers will visit all the 11,500 homes in the municipality on Monday and Tuesday to collect details about blood pressure, blood sugar, height, weight, and other health details of family members.

A health graph of all people in the municipality will be prepared on the basis of the study.
