Four days after his comments about Communist icon A.K. Gopalan kicked up a row, Congress legislator V.T. Balram on Tuesday made a scathing attack on veteran CPI(M) leader and Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V.S. Achuthanandan, terming him a powermonger.
In a Facebook post in response to Mr. Achuthanandan’s article in CPI(M) organ Desabhimani terming Mr. Balram a political novice ignorant of contemporary history, the Thrithala MLA alleged that levelling ‘vulgar’ allegations against political opponents was a weakness of Mr. Achuthanandan. “Mr. Achuthanandan claims he wrote the newspaper article to resist character assassination of the late A.K. Gopalan.
However, his article was, in fact, demeaning Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation,” Mr. Balram said.
He said the world not only belonged to veterans who held Cabinet rank to ensure facilities such as car, bungalow, and personal staff using public money but also to enterprising youths like him.
His post triggered a social media onslaught on him with CPI(M) supporters defending Mr. Achuthanandan.
