Vishu will be celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour in the State on Wednesday. Temples will perform special pujas. Elders gift money ( kaineettam ) to younger members. A feast will follow. Crackers are burst. Hindus may wake up early in the morning to watch Vishukkani (an arrangement of auspicious articles, including gold, cucumber, jackfruit, kanikonna , betel leaves, areca nut, linen, and a mirror).

On the eve of Vishu, every Hindu family arranges the kani. The eldest member of the family leads others to the puja room to watch Vishukkani. The Guruvayur Sreekrishna temple witnessed huge crowds on the eve of Vishu. Keezhsanthis prepared Kani. Vishukkani will be unveiled at the temple between 2.30 a.m. and 3.30 a.m. The thidambu (idol) of the deity will be placed on a golden chair at the Mukhamandapam. Sheeveli will be held to the accompaniment of Melam.
