Says police letting out false information

KPCC president M.M. Hassan has said the arrest of M. Vincent, MLA, in a rape case is a political conspiracy.

Briefing presspersons after a meeting of the KPCC here on Tuesday, he said all the same, the UDF had decided to divest him of all official responsibilities for the time being.

That there was a conspiracy was evident from the fact that before Mr. Vincent’s arrest, a senior officer had told policemen at the Neyyattinkara jail that a VIP would soon be brought there and that all facilities should be readied for the same.

The police were letting out false information about the incident. There were reports that police officer Ajitha Begum had interrogated Mr. Vincent. However, it later turned out that she was yet to see the MLA and that she had not taken his statement. The people would see through the CPI(M)’s manoeuvres on this count, he said.

The Congress had always maintained that the law should take its own course. But in the case of Mr. Vincent, the law was following Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s course, he said.

When asked about the reaction of women leaders in the Congress to the rape charge, Mr. Hassan said women leaders in the party had always had the freedom to express their opinion in public; particularly if the matter concerned a woman.

Women leaders had expressed their views, but the party decided not to ask for Mr. Vincent’s resignation. The Congress high command had been briefed on the case relating to Mr. Vincent, Mr. Hassan said.
