Vembanad water foul survey on Sunday

The 12th Vembanad Water Foul Survey, being taken out as part of the Asian Water Foul Survey by Wetland International, will be held on Sunday. The Vembanad Wetland, declared a Ramsar Site, has been divided into 100 regions for the benefit of the survey which begins at 6 am. Nearly 150 bird watchers will participate.

The preliminary training for the members of the team was held at the Regional Agriculture Research Station at Kumarakom. K V Subrahmonian, field director, Periyar Tiger Reserve, inaugurated. Noted ornithologist Prasanth Narayanan made a presentation reviewing the results for the last 11 surveys.

Kottayam Nature Society president B Sreekumar presided.

KTDC assistant manager P Rajeev, Cochin Refineries deputy general manager S Anujan, coconut Lagoon general manager Anil Kumar, Kottayam Nature Society secretary N Unnikrishnan PTR deputy director P R Suresh and others spoke.
