Janata Dal (United-Sharad Yadav) leader M.P. Veerendra Kumar on Monday filed nomination for the upcomingRajya Sabha elections on March 23.
Indicating the new bonhomie between the JD(U) and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan accompanied Mr. Veerendra Kumar as he reached the Legislature Secretary's office to file his nomination papers.
Although the JD(U) is not a constituent of the ruling LDF, the alliance has decided to back Mr. Veerendra Kumar's candidature.
The JD(U) has sought entry into the alliance, while the LDF leadership has told the party to wait till the Rajya Sabha elections are over. The JD(U) has also been told to explore possibilities of a merger with the Janata Dal (Secular), which is a LDF constituent.
