The State Cabinet has decided to slash Value Added Tax (VAT) on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) by 5% from the present 28.75%.

An official press note said here on Wednesday that the Cabinet decided to reduce VAT on ATF in pursuance of a Central government directive that States should go in for such reduction to promote the UDAAN scheme aimed at promoting inter-regional air connectivity.

The Cabinet also decided to appoint PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as consultants for extending the Chennai-Bengaluru industrial corridor to Kochi and to constitute a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for development of the Azhikkal port.

The company’s mandate would be to develop Azhikkal into a deepsea port that would contribute to the development of Malabar.

The government would issue an Ordinance to ensure that the 150 students who secured admission at Kannur Medical College, Ancharakkandy, functioning in the self-financing sector continue their studies.

The Admission Supervisory Committee had nullified the admissions terming them irregular. This was also endorsed by the Kerala High Court. The Cabinet decided to issue the Ordinance based on representations submitted by the students who had lost the opportunity to pursue their studies and their parents.
