All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Mukul Wasnik on Thursday categorically stated that the party high command will not compromise on the issue of discipline and unity.
He was on Thursday addressing the Thiruvananthapuram district convention of the party here, the first of the initiatives undertaken by the Congress leadership to ring in unity ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Mr. Wasnik accused the Opposition parties in New Delhi and Kerala for obstructing the proceedings of Parliament and the State Assembly respectively.
He said the UPA government had enacted or initiated several landmark legislations to reach out to the common man. He wanted the party apparatus to take up campaigns to make the people aware of the pro-poor policies of the Union and State governments, he said.

Flaying the LDF for its decision to disrupt the Chief Minister’s mass contact programme, he said the threats of the Opposition to paralyse the functioning of a duly elected government were unconstitutional). Continuing in the same vein, he urged party workers to react strongly to the LDF’s negative approach to government initiatives.
Addressing the convention, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said LDF’s functioning was confined to ‘sloganeering and organising agitations.’
The ongoing agitations announced by the LDF were politically motivated in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The government was determined to go take the development agenda forward, be it the SmartCity, monorail, or Vizhinjam projects, Mr. Chandy said.
DCC president K. Mohankumar presided over the function. M.M. Hassan, V.D. Satheesan, Thalekunnil Basheer, Shashi Tharoor, Kodikkunnil Suresh, V.S. Sivakumar, Shanimol Usman, Thampanoor Ravi, N. Sakhtan, Varkala Kahar, and Selvaraj were present.
