Decentralisation of power, Kudumbasree Mission, and e-governance have brought about revolutionary changes in the socio-administrative spheres in Kerala, S.M. Vijayanand, Secretary, Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, has said.

Mr. Vijayanand was addressing a meeting of district-level officers of various government departments at the Collectorate conference hall here on Monday.

Mr. Vijayanand, who was the Thiruvalla Sub-Collector during 1983-85, said that the district was yet to have any major industrial unit or IT venture which could generate employment opportunities. Mr. Vijayanand said Thiruvalla taluk maintained good standards in terms of basic infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

Mr. Vijayanand stressed the need for efforts for the welfare of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe sections of society.

He also noted a considerable reduction in paddy cultivation in the district.

Mr. Vijayanand directed the officials to provide data regarding the number of pilgrims visiting Sabarimala, the total number of cellular phone subscribers, and Aadhar Card holders in the district.

Addressing the meeting, District Collector S. Harikishore said the industrial parks at Enadimangalam and Kunnamathanam were functioning well.

He said the district had been making great strides in the fields of healthcare and education.
