Unaccounted money seized

: The Sulthan Bathery police arrested three men and seized Rs.3, 22, 57,100 from them at Thakarappadi, near Muthanga, on the Kerala-Karnataka border at 7.45 a.m. on Sunday.

The police identified the arrested as Rafeeque, 35, of Vennakkad Kappumpurath at Padanilam; Junais, 25, of Koonathil at Vavad; and Abdulrahiman, 42, of Ererakkal at Avilora in Kozhikode district.

The trio was arrested on a tip-off while they were transporting the money in a car, P. Bijuraj, Circle Inspector of Police, Sulthan Bathery,who led the operation told The Hindu .

The cash was kept in a secret chamber in the car. The police also seized the car and a loaded country-made revolver with 8 cartridges, Mr. Bijuraj added .

Those accused revealed to the police during interrogation that they were transporting the cash to Koduvally in Kozhikode district from Bangalore in Karnataka, he added .

Staff Reporter adds from Kasaragod: In a pre-dawn raid, Vigilance Department officers on Sunday recovered unaccounted cash of Rs.21,300 from a highway patrol vehicle during routine inspection at Uppala.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of personnel headed by Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police K.V. Raghuraman seized over Rs.2,000 from the possession of Adhur police station Additional Sub-Inspector A.P. Bedu and the remaining amount from a bag kept near the patrol jeep, a Vigilance department official here said.

Besides the ASI, three more police personnel were on vehicle inspection duty.
