Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Kummanam Rajasekharan has asked Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan to clarify his stand on the alleged moves between the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M] to create a covert understanding in the coming Assembly elections.
In Bengal
Addressing the media here on Monday when he arrived leading the BJP’s Vimochana Yatra, Mr. Rajasekharan said the CPI(M) had already reached an open understanding with the Congress in West Bengal for the Assembly election, while at the same time desperately trying for a secret understanding with the Congress in Kerala.
He said that it was on the basis of such an understanding that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government was reluctant to refer the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and as a quid pro quo arrangement the CPI(M) was also not pressing for a CBI probe into the solar scam.
Mr. Achuthanandan should clarify his stand on these too, Mr. Rajasekharan said. Mr. Rajashekaran said Congress leader A.K. Antony too has to clarify his stand on these aspects. He said there had never been a government in the State that faced such a volley of corruption charges.
By issuing a good certificate to the Oommen Chandy government, Mr. Antony had eroded his credibility.
