Kanhangad police arrested two more persons involved in the burglary at the North Malabar Gramin Bank at Periya near Kanhangad in Kasaragod district.
The duo from Tamil Nadu identified as Annadurai (40) and Murukan (38) were nabbed from Chamaraj Nagar in Karnataka by the police team led by Kanhangad Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Habeeb Rahman. The police said they were arrested on Wednesday. The police also recovered 4.250 kg (4 kg and 250 grams) of gold ornaments and Rs. 1 lakh in cash from them. The two were also involved in burglary cases in Kerala and the neighbouring States. This included the bank burglary at Thirunavaya in which 20 kg of gold ornaments had been stolen and the robbery at a bank in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh involving loss of 22 kg of gold, the police said.
The police had earlier arrested two persons in connection with the bank heist. Gold ornaments weighing 33 kg. and Rs. 6.5 lakh in cash had been stolen from the bank branch on June 18. The total loss was estimated at Rs. 4.57 crore.
The police said one-third of the ornaments stolen from the bank had been recovered so far.
