Two registers related to more than 900 acres of land at Kottakamboor village in Munnar are found missing from the taluk office, Devikulam, according to a report filed in the High Court by the investigation officer who is probing the criminal cases relating to the alleged land grab by Idukki MP Joice George and others.

S. Abhilash, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Munnar, said number 1 and number 2 registers pertaining to survey number 58/1 of Kottakamboor village comprising more than 900 acres were found missing.

Since the files containing the application for assignment, the sketch plan prepared by the village officer and verification of the land were available, the missing of two registers did not have much relevance except for the fact that the second register contained decision of the land assignment committee.

The District Collector had also informed him that the registers were not available at the district administration.

The report was filed in response to a petition seeking a CBI inquiry into the criminal cases registered against the MP and others.

Cheating charge

The charge against Mr. George, his father, his brother Georgy George was that they had “snatched away” the land belonging to a woman of the Scheduled Tribe by forging documents on the basis of a power of attorney obtained by them in 2001 and thereby they had committed criminal conspiracy and cheating.
