The Transport Minister V.S. Sivakumar has said that from the next academic year traffic rules and regulations will be included in the new school syllabus in the State.
Inaugurating a workshop on road safety organized by Motor Vehicles Department at Town Hall here on Tuesday the Minister said that the new school syllabus on road safety will help create a new traffic culture for the younger generation.
He said that every year 4000 people lost their lives in Kerala in road accidents. In India it is 1.25 lakh annually.
He said that the accident rates have come down from 2005 but the aim of the State government is to make “Kerala accident free.”
He said that the Road Safety Committees will be constituted in all the local bodies in the State consisting of Presidents of Grama Panchayats and Chairmen of Municipalities and a representative of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO).
The meeting was presided over by Shafi Parambil, M.L.A.
The key note address was delivered by Road Safety and Transport Commissioner T.P. Sen Kumar.
The meeting was addressed by District Collector K.V. Mohan Kumar, District Panchayat President T.N. Khandamuthan, Chairman of Palakkad Municipality Abdul Khoodos, Regional Transport Officer Jose Paul among others.
