Notwithstanding their sharp political differences in Kerala, the Congress and Left parties should be prepared to join hands at the national level to rejuvenate the strong and vibrant democratic, socialist and secular fabric of the country, senior Congress leader K. Sankaranarayanan has said.
Democratic values
“I am of the firm view that Left parties in the country should flourish at a time when India is grappling with serious erosion in democratic, socialist and secular values, as is being witnessed during the BJP rule,” he added.
“I also feel that all political parties, which believe in vibrant and strong democratic values should come together at the national level, so that the democratic and secular fabric of the nation is placed on sound a platform,” the former Maharashtra Governor observed.
Mr. Sankaranarayanan made the observations at the 25th death anniversary of Congress leader M.K. Nambiar, who had represented the erstwhile Kasaragod constituency in the 1960 Assembly election.
Maintaining that the Centre’s demonetisation drive had invited “disaster” for the nation, the former State Finance Minister said the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime had proved even more “disastrous”.
