The Thrissur West police on Thursday arrested three persons who allegedly harassed writer and teacher at Sree Kerala Varma College Deepa Nishant over the phone and social media.

The arrested were identified as Anoop, 20, of Puthenchira, Lalu, 20, of Balussery, and Ashiq, 19, of Nedupuzha.

The youths allegedly posted Ms. Nishant’s number on pro-BJP WhatsApp groups and asked to call her repeatedly. They spread derogatory comments about Ms. Nishant and her family members.

Ms. Nishant filed a complaint along with details of the callers and phone recordings. She also attached screen shots of the comments on social media. The cyberattack on Ms. Nishant became severe after she posted her stance on some of the current social issues.
