Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should take immediate action to resolve the problems facing the execution of the long-pending Thiruvalla bypass project linking Mazhuvanchira with Ramanchira on the MC Road, former Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, has said.
In a missive, the MLA urged the Chief Minister to clear the hurdles to the project following the stay order issued by the National Green Tribunal and the recent order of the Kerala High Court setting aside the land acquisition procedures for the project.
Mr. Chandy is to inaugurate the second phase of the MC Road development under the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) on the Chengannur-Ettumanur stretch on September 14.
Mr. Mathew said the government should amend the rules, if necessary, for resuming the land acquisition on a war-footing. The District Collector had sent a report to the government after holding talks with the landowners. An agreement must be reached with the landowners on the basis of the Collector’s report to start the work without further delay. The government should also initiate legal action on the court order, he added. The MLA also called for maintenance of the Mazhuvangadchira-Ramanchira stretch in the backdrop of the delay in executing the work on the bypass.
