The Kodumbu Subramanya Swamy Temple near Palakkad has made elaborate arrangements to celebrate New Year on January 1, 2012.
The temple is celebrating New Year for the last 20 years organized by Kodumbu Sree Murukabhaktha Sangom.
The New Year programmes starts with ‘Niramala’ on December 31, 2011, said S. Prasanna Kumar, Convenor of the New Year Celebration Committee.
The temples in Palakkad usually celebrate Vishu and Chithira Kani (Tamil new year). But this temple annually celebrates New Year on January 1, as per the English calendar, as a sign of communal harmony and peace.
On every January 1st the temple celebrates New Year with Niramala and Mahaganapathy homam at 4 a.m followed by ‘Vedaparayanam’ at 5 a.m.
This will be followed by ‘Shadakshara homam’ for world peace and family welfare at 5 p.m, the Convenor said.
