Synthetic track at Calicut varsity stadium opened

April 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - MALAPPURAM:

In a festive ambience carefully planned not to evoke the wrath of the State Election Commission, Calicut University on Monday threw open its new synthetic track and football stadium with turf. International athlete Anju Bobby George was the chief guest who witnessed the inaugural.

In view of the Assembly elections, the inaugural function became markedly different by the absence of politicians from all parties.

Vice Chancellor K. Mohammed Basheer, Pro Vice Chancellor P. Mohan, Registrar N. Muhammadali, Ms. Anju, and Physical Education Director V.P. Sakeer Hussain joined hands with the staff, students and the local people and declared the synthetic track and the football court in C.H. Mohammed Koya Stadium open.

Ms. Anju accepted the torch from the Vice Chancellor. All of them ran a round along the track.

Dr. Basheer unveiled the inaugural plaque. Dr. Mohan presided. Dr. Sakeer Husain presented a report.
