The Suryanelli sex scandal victim filed a criminal revision petition before the Sessions Court, Thodupuzha, on Tuesday against the dismissal of her earlier complaint by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (II), Peerumade, for further investigation into the ‘involvement’ of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien in the scandal.
The girl’s advocates produced before the court the ‘revelations’ made by Dharmarajan, the only person convicted by the Kerala High Court in the case, about Mr. Kurien and also the discrepancies in the order of the Peerumade court setting aside her complaint.
It was on March 1, 2013 that the girl filed a complaint before the Peerumade court against Mr. Kurien on the basis of Dharmarajan’s revelations.
Meanwhile, seven of the accused who were convicted by the special court (which tried the case) took bail on Tuesday on the basis of a High Court directive. They included P.K. Jamal, third accused; Cheriyan, fifth accused; Jose Nedumthakidyel, seventh accused; Mohammed Yousuf, 14th accused; Sunny George, 21st accused; and Jiji, 22nd accused.
Dramatic scenes were enacted during the occasion as one of the convicts, Jiji, pushed away a cameraman of a news channel and ran out of the court. He then ran into the Collectorate building and into the Collector’s office, from where he was taken away by the police.
