Adding the glamour quotient to Bharatiya Janata Party’s election campaign, actor Suresh Gopi began his high-pitch State-level electioneering in Palakkad on Tuesday by initiating a scathing attack on the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) government alleging that it had torpedoed the State’s overall growth.

Though Mr. Gopi decided not to contest the Assembly election as he was eyeing a comfortable position at the national level, BJP president Amit Shah intervened and made him the star campaigner of the party for Kerala elections.

According to party national council member and candidate in Palakkad Assembly constituency, Shobha Surendran, the star campaigner will address mammoth election meetings in 40 selected constituencies across the State on five consecutive days. The party has arranged a chartered helicopter for Mr. Gopi. He will also share dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mr. Shah during the party’s campaigning in the State.

Addressing the Palakkad Assembly constituency-level workers’ meet of the party, Mr. Gopi termed the present UDF rule in the State as that of bandicoots.

“The voters will end the misrule of the UDF by exercising their franchise. If the UDF gets another term, the State will be crippled. The tainted ministers have caused enormous ill repute to the State,” he said.

However, his attack on the opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) was mild. “It is more important to ensure the defeat of the UDF. That is our priority.

Those who get benefit of the situation is not our immediate concern,” said Mr. Gopi.

He said the BJP would open its account in the State this time.
