Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran is all set to launch the first phase of the reconstitution of the party organisational structure from the lower-level committees up to the districts.

A meeting of District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents, convened by Mr. Sudheeran for Wednesday, will hold preliminary discussions on the revamp process. The party leadership had started the reconstitution process last year, but it came to a halt following prolonged discussions on the induction of Ramesh Chennithala. . Reconstitution up to the DCC level was completed with the induction of new KPCC office-bearers and DCC presidents. The task of completing the revamp process at the local level has now fallen up on Mr. Sudheeran. Mr. Sudheeran, during his visit to New Delhi, met Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, and political secretary Ahmed Patel.

Speaking to The Hindu shortly before returning home from Delhi, Mr. Sudheeran said that at no point of time did the issue of Cabinet reshuffle come up during the discussions. The party had not initiated such a discussion at the State level. Besides, Cabinet reshuffle was the sole prerogative of the Chief Minister. He would extend his support if the Chief Minister were to make such a move, he said. With regard to the revamp process, he said that gates would be open for those who had proved their mettle and factional loyalties alone would not be criteria in providing slots in various committees.
