The agitation in the hill areas of the district in protest against the government order suspending the ongoing hill highway works was called off following an assurance from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The decision to call off the agitation was announced by K.C. Joseph, MLA representing the Irikkur constituency here, following a meeting of a delegation headed by him with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in his chamber in Thiruvananthapuram on September 31. The MLA, who is chairman of the action committee formed to spearhead the agitation, said the agitation was being temporarily suspended in response to the Chief Minister's assurance that steps would be taken to ensure interrupted work.
