Transforming Kerala from ‘God’s own Country’ to a ‘land of frauds’ was the major achievement of the Oommen Chandy government during its two-year rule, Communist Party of India (CPI) national executive member, Kaanam Rajendran, has alleged.
Mr. Rajendran was inaugurating a meeting to commemorate the former AITUC leader, R. Raveendran, at Konni on Sunday.
He said it a was a matter of shame for the State that the entire dealings in connection with the solar scam had taken place in close liaison with the Chief Minister’s office at the Secretariat and the Chief Minister could not evade responsibility for this.
Only a comprehensive judicial probe could bring out the entire truth in connection with the solar scam.
Resignation
This was also the reason why the LDF has demanded the resignation of Mr Chandy, he said.
Every reason
He alleged that there was every reason to suspect that Mr. Chandy had held discussions with the scam-accused Biju Radhakrishnan at the Aluva Guest House over sharing the subsidy amount worth Rs 45,000 crore of the Rs 60,000 crore solar panel project.
Mr. Rajendran alleged that the State’s traditional industry was facing destruction owing to the negative labour policies of the UDF government.
No effective step
The government has taken no effective step to protect these sections, he alleged.
The CPI leader called upon the government to take immediate steps to address the problems facing the settler farmers.
Vilangupara Sukumaran, Plantation Workers Union (AITUC) district president, presided over the meeting. M. Sukumara Pillai, CPI State council member; P. Prasad, district secretary; Chengara Surendran, AITUC district president, and M.V.Vidyadharan, district secretary, also spoke.
