SSLC: record for Malappuram

From 41.23% in 2002 to 97% this year; 2,056 get A+ for all

April 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Malappuram:

The district secured the highest percentage of success ever in this year’s SSLC examinations, the results of which were announced on Monday. Ninety-seven per cent of the students who took the examination in the district qualified to go for higher studies.

Fall in A+

However, the district suffered a fall in the number of students securing A+ in all subjects.

When 2,056 students had secured A+ in all subjects last year, only 1,913 got full A+ this year.

“I think it was mathematics which troubled a large number of students,” said K.P. Jalseemia, District Panchayat Education Standing Committee chairperson.

Ms. Jalseemia said the Vijayabheri project of the District panchayat had contributed considerably for the district’s success in the SSLC examination. “From 41.23 per cent in 2002 to 97 per cent in 2015 has been quite a creditable march,” she said.

Last year, the district scored 95.48 per cent pass in SSLC. In 2013, the pass percentage in Malappuram was 91.43. In 2012, it was 92.11 per cent. The pass percentage of Malappuram was 88.52 in 2011, 86.97 in 2010, 86.67 in 2009, 87.09 in 2008, 76.29 in 2007, 61.91 in 2006, 56.63 in 2005, 58.77 in 2004, 48.44 in 2003, and 41.23 in 2002.

The steady increase in the SSLC results over the past decade was the outcome of the persistent efforts by the schools, teachers and the District panchayat, said Ms. Jalseemia.

P.K.M.M. Higher Secondary School, Edarikode, achieved the unique status by getting the highest number of students pass the SSLC in the State. As many as 2,116 students passed the examination at P.K.M.M.

“It’s a record. But we are sad for the two students who lost,” said headmaster K. Kunhi Moidu. The Edarikode school was in news by fielding the largest number of students for the SSLC this year.

Out of the 2,118 students who took the exam, all but two passed. When 136 got A+ in all subjects, 140 scored A+ in nine subjects there.

The District panchayat will felicitate all students who secured A+ in all subjects in the district.

The schools which secured 100 per cent pass too will be honoured as part of the Vijayabheri scheme.

The winners from Wandoor and Malappuram educational districts will be felicitated at a function to be held at Municipal Town Hall here on Thursday morning. The achievers from Tirur and Tirurangadi educational districts will be honoured at Wagon Tragedy Hall, Tirur, on Saturday morning.

District Panchayat president Suhara Mampad and Ms. Jalseemia requested the winning students and the headmasters of the winning schools to reach their respective venues with documents on time.

Kannur on top

Staff Reporter writes from Kannur: The Kannur district retains its highest pass percentage in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination in the State, even though there is a slight decline in the percentage compared to that of last year. The results were declared on Monday and the pass percentage in the district is 97.99.

The district’s pass percentage last year was 98.27, which was the highest ever since the results in the district improved following the launch of ‘Mukulam’ scheme, a student-oriented coaching-cum-support system by the district panchayat here in 2006.
