MLAs seek sinking of more wells, construction of more check-dams

The District Development Committee (DDC) has called upon the government to take steps to solve drinking water scarcity in parts of the district.

The DDC meting held at the collectorate conference hall here on Monday stressed the need to sink more tube wells, repair and maintain existing ones, and extend waterlines to more areas.

The meeting said more check-dams should be constructed. Water should be taken in tanker lorries to affected areas.

K. Sivadasan Nair, MLA, sought steps to implement the decisions taken at the previous DDC meeting to avert accidents along the Manthuka stretch of MC Road, near Pandalam.

Action should be taken to remove encroachments, including places of worship, set up on government land. Steps should be taken to ensure the full-fledged functioning of the Kozhencherry Mini Civil Station complex, he said.

District Collector S. Harikishore said signboards had been placed at Manthuka, adding that the Road Safety Committee would implement the decisions of the committee in this regard.

Mr. Harikishore said the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, the Deputy Director of Panchayats, and the Revenue Divisional Officers of Adoor and Thiruvalla would take steps to clear encroachments from government lands.

The allotment of space for various departments at the Kozhencherry civil station complex would be completed by February 15, he said.

Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, sought action against contractors who violated contract obligations in the construction of road approaches to the new bridges at Kavanal Kadavu and Ottafice Kadavu in Thiruvalla.

Chittayam Gopakumar, MLA, sought an inquiry into the stance taken by the panchayat secretary towards allotting land to set up a Fire and Rescue Station at Pandalam.

Pumping should be restored at the Kadambanad drinking water supply scheme besides taking steps to open the canal of the Kallada Irrigation Project, Mr. Gopakumar said.

Raju Abraham, MLA, stressed the need to speed up road works at the Adichippuzha tribal settlement and various other colonies in Ranni taluk. Robin Peter and Satheesh Kochuparambil attended the meeting as representatives of Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash and Anto Antony, MP, respectively.

Mathew Kulathuimkal, District Cooperative Bank president; T. Sureshbabu, District Planning Officer; and other district-level officials attended the meeting.
