The High Court of Kerala will not spare its judges for a judicial probe into the solar scam which had rocked the State.

The administrative committee of the High Court, headed by Chief Justice Manjula Chellur, turned down the request of the State government for sparing a judge for the probe. The State government had decided to go in for a judicial probe by a sitting judge as the Opposition had raised a storm of protest following the scam.

The Opposition had also called off its protest of laying siege to the State Secretariat after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced the decision for a judicial probe into the imbroglio.

The decision of the High Court was conveyed to the Chief Secretary. Besides the Chief Justice, Justice K.M. Joseph, Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan, Justice K. T. Sankaran and Justice S. Siri Jagan were on the committee which took the decision.

The committee cited the shortage of judges in the High Court and the various decisions of the apex court asking High Courts not to allot the services of a sitting judge for such probes.
