Biju Radhakrishnan, prime accused in the high-profile solar scam in Kerala, and his assistant Chandran were arrested in Coimbatore on Monday by a team of the Kerala Police.
Assisted by the Coimbatore city police, the Kerala team first picked up Chandran at Ramnagar.
He then led the police to the prime accused. Biju and his partner Saritha S. Nair are accused of duping many people who have invested in their solar energy firm Team Solar.
Special team
According to police sources, following a request from senior Kerala Police officers, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan constituted a team headed by Saibaba Colony Inspector S. Chandramohan to assist the Kerala team in tracking down the accused.
The two teams began trailing the accused around 10 days ago once it became clear that Biju was in the city.
On June 4, 5, and 6, the accused had stayed in a city hotel.
The next two days, the two accused disappeared and must have stayed in a friend’s place at Singanallur.
Tracking
The police began tracking them again on June 9. On Monday, the police came to know that the two were planning to sell a laptop and had contacted a retail dealer near Cross Cut Road.
When Chandran reached the shop, the police arrested him and he led the police to Biju around 2.30 p.m.
The sources said that immediately after the arrest, the Kerala Police team, led by sub-inspector Jayaraj, took them away.
When The Hindu contacted the police officer, he would only say that the team that arrested the two was from the Crime Branch CID.
