Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan announced on Friday that a special investigation team had been constituted under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Vinson M. Paul to probe the murder of the Paul Muthoot George.
Addressing a press conference here, the Minister said that the team was constituted as the inter-district ramifications of the case and deeper links would have to be probed in detail. The investigation would cover links of Muthoot George with goonda elements.
Additional Director General of Police Siby Mathews would be entrusted with task of apprehending all goondas against whom detention orders had been issued. Mr. Mathews would also pursue matters connected to standing proceedings against goondas. Besides, the police would look into the financial prowess of the quotation gangs and source of their funds.
Refuting allegations, Mr. Balarkrishnan said that his son Bineesh Kodiyeri did not have any connection with the murder case. “My son is not into real estate business.”
The police had full freedoms to investigate the case and none of the accused would be allowed to escape. The police had already arrested 14 persons in connection with the case.
The Minister also denied the allegation that his office had intervened for the release of the vehicle in which two goondas, who were with George, had travelled to Thiruvananthapuram after the businessman was killed. The fact that the car is still in the custody of the Chavara police itself negated the allegation. However, the Superintendent of Police, Kollam, would examine how the two goondas managed to escape. Inspector General (Railways) would supervise the investigation.
