: The Kerala State Women’s Commission (KSWC) has observed that consensual sex under false marriage promise cannot be treated as rape.

KSWC Member Noorbeena Rasheed said at a mega adalat organised here on Thursday that the commission had received complaints alleging rape after offering promise of marriage. If sex was consensual in such cases, cheating case alone could stand, she was quoted as saying in an official press release briefing the proceedings of the adalat.

The adalat held at the Municipal Hall here settled nearly half of the complaints received, the release said.

As many as 34 complaints, out of the total 64, were settled.  Twenty were posted for the next sitting. Most of the complaints related to domestic violence, she said.
