Eighteen students were injured, four of them seriously, when the school van in which they were returning home after school crashed into a building. The accident occurred at Neduvathur near Kottarakara on Friday evening. The students are from Acharya Public School, Neduvathur.

The vehicle was coming down a slope at the time of the accident, the reason for which is cited as brake failure. Two of the critically injured students have been admitted to Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, and another two to a private hospital at Thiruvananthapuram. The remaining students and the van driver of the van have been admitted to the Kottarakara taluk hospital.
