Sabarimala tantri cremated

People from various walks of life pay tribute to Maheswararu

The funeral of Sabarimala senior tantri Kandararu Maheswararu, who passed away on Monday, was held in the courtyard of the Thazhamon Madhom at Mundankavu, near Chengannur, on Tuesday.

People from all walks of life paid their last respects to him. The mortal remains of Maheswararu were taken to the funeral pyre by 11.30 a.m. Vikraman Namboodiri of Analakkad Illom supervised the funeral rites.

Maheswararu’s last rites were performed by his son Kandararu Mohanararu around 12.20 p.m.

His grandsons Kandararu Maheshewararu Mohanararu, who is also the incumbent Tantri at Sabarimala, Rahul Easwar, and Sandeep; and his nephew Kandararu Rajeevararu carried the mortal remains to the pyre.

The police accorded a guard of honour and gun salute to him.

Floral tributes were paid to the departed tantri on behalf of the State government and the Chief Minister.

K.J. Alphons, Union Minister of State for Tourism; Ministers T.M. Thomas Isaac, C. Ravindranath, A.K. Balan, J. Mercykutty Amma, M.M.Mani, and Kadannappally Ramachandran; Kodikkunnil Suresh, and Anto Antony, MPs; Kummanam Rajasekharan, BJP State president; Vaikom Viswan, LDF convener; and A.Padmakumar, TDB president; were among those who paid their last respects.
