Rubber tapper re-skilling to begin at 350 centres

The tapper re-skilling programme, held by the Rubber Board, begins at 350 select centres on Wednesday.

According to Rubber Board authorities, 10,000 tappers will be imparted scientific ways of tapping during the three-day programme, which is aimed at enhancing the tapping skills of those who are in the profession currently.

The programme is being implemented with the assistance of the National Skill Development Corporation and the Rubber Skill Development Council under the Pradhan Mantri Kausal Vikas Yojana.

The Rubber Board was taking up the programme as part of the integrated efforts being undertaken to improve the profitability of rubber cultivation through improved technical skills, press note said.

Production

Production of natural rubber (NR) in the country showed an increase during the period from April 2016 to October 2016. It recorded an increase of 10.94 per cent as compared to the production in the same period during the last year. Production during the month of October 2016 alone showed an increase of 15.4 per cent as compared to last year. If this trend continued, production of natural rubber during the fiscal will reach the anticipated 6.54 lakh tonnes, the press note said.
