Alleged links with convict in TP case

The Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) has demanded that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the conspiracy angle in the murder of T.P. Chandrasekharan investigate the link between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] candidate in Vadakara A.N. Shamseer and one of the convicts in the murder case Kirmani Manoj.

Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, RMP State secretary N. Venu and K.K. Rema, widow of Chandrasekharan, alleged that Mr. Shamseer had telephoned Kirmani Manoj, convicted to life imprisonment, several times, including the previous day of the murder of the RMP leader. They also produced a copy of the mobile phone details.

They said that Kirmani Manoj had called from his mobile number to the number used by Mr. Shamseer. Mr. Venu doubted that the contents of the call could be connected to the murder of Chandrasekharan. At that time the CPI(M) had organised the Party Congress in Kozhikode attended by its State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and other leaders.

Dismisses charge

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat has dismissed as “baseless” the allegation raised by Ms. Rema that Mr. Shamseer had links with one of the convicts in the murder case. Addressing a news conference at Vadakara on Saturday, Ms. Karat said that there was no truth in the allegations made by Ms. Rema.

The RMP leaders had come out with the accusation as the CPI(M) had an edge over other parties. Bringing out an unfounded allegation at the time of elections showed that they were scared of the reputation of the party’s (M) nominee, she said.
