River treatment at Pampa: Collector intervenes

The Additional District Magistrate, P.H.Salimraj, has directed the Duty Magistrate at Pampa not to permit direct chemical treatment in Njunangar stream leading to river Pampa on the foothills of Sabarimala with out getting clearance for the same from the District Collector.

In a fax message to the Duty Magistrate at Pampa, the ADM has directed to convey the matter to the TDB Chief Engineer. He said the District Collector, T.T.Antony, has also sought clarification from the District Environmental Engineer of State Pollution Control Board here on the reported use of contaminated ferrous chloride for river treatment at Pampa leading to heavy metal contamination of the water source.
