The Kerala NGO Union staged a dharna in front of the Government Medical College at Manjeri on Thursday pressing various demands, including retention of the Government General Hospital. The medical college was formed last year by upgrading the general hospital.
However, neither the medical college nor the general hospital is functioning to the satisfaction of the thousands of people in the district.
The NGO Union demanded that basic facilities be immediately ensured at the medical college even when retaining the general hospital.
It also demanded clarity in the service matters of the employees of the medical college and the general hospital.
NGO Union State president P.H.M. Ismail inaugurated the dharna. State secretary K. Sundara Rajan delivered the keynote address. District secretary V. Sivadas welcomed the gathering.
Joint secretary M.K. Krishna Pradeep proposed a vote of thanks.
